RIP Will Vinton
1947-2018
This is a rarity that I cover someone who isn't an actor or director when I do these RIPs as sadly that is mostly the most available to me and the easiest to look up. However, this will be one of the rare times that we will actually talk about an animator (and a stop motion animator at that). Will Vinton had a very unique style of stop motion animation that worked really well in the 80s with the California Raisins and Return To Oz. He also is the person that created the M&M Characters that we all know and love in the 90s, which are still going strong today. However, I know him more for a brief segment of a film I inducted along with Toon Crap's Raymond Gallant in Moonwalker.
Yes, He Did That Speed Demon Segment That Probably Was One Of The Only Few Memorable Segments In That Forgotten Piece Of Nostalgia For Some. Hell, The Freaking Arcade Game Is More Remembered Than The Film.
Unfortunately at the age of 70, he just passed away from multiple myeloma. But he will always be remembered and of course he will be missed.
Rest in Peace.
